Still, I wanted to keep going as hard as I could without burning out. The Gold Star said she was coming out for an extra workout, and that was like an invitation to join the party for me! :) If I had not risen to the occasion, I would have been looking at the clock wondering what kind of great fat burning treats the Star was getting for her Transformation, that I turned down.
On schedule for today was the Total Body workout configured by Brian. These workouts and his cardio days are the most challenging for me. Kim, one of his lead trainers affectionately known as our "Velvet Hammer", was going to facilitate the class.
What I didn't know at the time I signed on, was that I was going to walk into the Lion's mouth today, folks! LOL :)
I thought I might breeze through this as a supplement workout, because I had given my all to Brian for the week, and he was killer, especially for my lower half. :) Star agreed that she, too, was really sore from that mighty workout yesterday as well. So we compared battle scars and knew that today was going to be a fun challenge! Thank goodness I had a few of my familiar comrades around to buffer the workout explosion!
We set up our gear, and socialized for a minute. New friends and campers always interest me. I met a regular Sat. camper who told me she decided to join Adventure because she was desperate to get in shape and she knew she needed to do something drastic. She simply didn't want to stay this way any longer. Isn't that the truth? I don't either. She was a lady who came to BootCamp immediately after work to get herself in the shape she envisioned. People are tired after work, so I know she is really committed.
When I go around camp and ask our campers what brought them here, I have come to believe it is courage that brings them. It takes courage to come in these camps for the first time, turn your lifestyle upside down, and admit you need something more than magical thinking to make your dreams come true.
Sometimes it takes something greater than ourselves. Usually, we need a drastic change in our daily routine to kick start us to make a lifestyle move. And most of all, we need solid direction, expertise, and lots of support! :)
Which has me thinking: Just as foolhardy or risky as it may be to invest in the stock market without a financial adviser, it is likewise foolhardy to invest in your fitness health without an advisor who can motivate you and get you the results you want! :) A fitness coach has seen a lot of "portfolios" or bodies, and various levels of motivation. It takes an expert to determine where you are and what you need to win this game. As far as the pinK tiger is concerned, the fitness expert you choose is just as important as the doctor you choose. Not all doctors are equal; and not all fitness advisors and coaches are equal. Pay attention to their credentials. :)
As we began, Kim blew the whistle and started us up with a no nonsense approach. We went through the warm-ups and then we started to break it down. This was one tough workout! It left me breathless. My heart, spirit and motivation was very present, but my body was screaming, "Give me a break already!"LOL :)
I knew my body was fatigued because it wasn't moving as fast and strong as my spirit wanted to go. Bending around those cones seemed like I was moving in slow motion with lead in my shoes; tripping over the ladder every now and then told me my body didn't want to cooperate, and my reflexes were sluggish.
Dang! When double packed with yesterday's workout, this was gonna be a double whammy that would surely test my mettle! :) Oh, baby, this was no playtime! Lol!
When we got to our succession of squats and lunges I was working at total capacity. Kim transformed herself into the "Velvet Hammer" when she looked at some of us who weren't holding weights for this circuit. She didn't say much; she simply motioned for us to get out the heaviest weights we could handle safely and responsibly. She wasn't about to let us wimp out on ourselves or her.
This little kitten was getting ready to roar like a lion! :) I could see it in her demeanor and dark shiny eyes! (hee-hee)
Oh, Lordy! Time to suck it up! I clutched a pair of 8 lb weights which were the heaviest I ever did with this circuit. My legs were churning to mush as they quivered like jello. After all, we had worked out our legs and lower body yesterday, and I was still attempting to recover from those Killer reps Brian sweetly bestowed upon us! LoL:)
At this point Kim quickly unzipped her jacked with a deadpan expression, and on her shirt were black bold letters that revealed the true nature of her position "Drill Sergeant!" Uh huh! She got that right! :) All right sweet Kim! ;)
The group had to chuckle! One thing about the Adventure BootCamp.....you always get a dose of humor to ease the pain! lol:)
We moved on to a diversified mix of other circuits that hit our shoulders, back, triceps, and abs. We used all the workout toys that included the exercise bands, cones and ladders.
As I bustled through all these exercises, I was very aware that though Brian wasn't here, the distinctive flavor of this workout had his signature written all over it. :) This challenge today was definitely a gift from our coach! :)
So what made this day different? Lots of things. The campers were different, and as I've said in my other blogs, each of us brings to the camp our own energy and personality. Its almost like mixing chemicals in a science lab. Add or remove any particular person or chemical within the mix, and you will have invented a new chemical, or actually a new aura and dynamic, floating in the air! :)
Another thing was the time of day. We Dublin warriors work out in the bright moonlight and under those heavenly stars. The sunlight was very welcoming, but it gave a different feel to the workout.
And then the most important variable was the facilitation. All these nuances and little changes can take you out of your comfort zone and challenge you in a new way. The personality of the coach may not change the intensity of the prescribed workout, but may change your perception of your workload.
For today, my muscles were really cooked, and it seemed like we were flying through these circuits with less recovery time between circuits. Was it my imagination because I was fatigued? It surely provided an exceptional cardio workout, because there seemed to be no time to walk or dally around between the stations! It was Run, Baby, Run! LOL!
The drill sergeant's whistle would go off regardless of whether you were in place or not, and the group waited for no one! Hee-hee!
Hey, we were with a drill sergeant who captured our imaginations with her dry sense of humor. :) The kitten that roared was like a real BootCamp sergeant! :) Who could not love this?
Still, I had to ask myself why this workout seemed so tough? All of Brian's workouts are incredibly wicked if you amp up your intensity. Then I realized that...... sometimes a little sugar with that medicine can make you forget how terrible that medicine tastes! :)
Hee-hee! The Velvet Hammer will quietly challenge you to work your hardest, and you just know you gotta meet the expectation. :) She is all business and quite the taskmaster folks! It is great fun, but you know you are workin' your a%# off ! :)
Brian slips a little sugar under that medicine with a clever charm and humor, and even though you work at a slammin' throttle, your perception might be,"This is so much fun; it doesn't even hurt!" :)
Ha ha! :) That's until a couple of hours later. By the next day......Giddy-up! Your body is talkin' to you!
True, "The Man With the Plan" is every bit as tough as the "Velvet Hammer" but he is a master of illusions! :) LoL! Its almost like magic. :)
Yes I like that sugar. That medicine tastes so good you don't even know how hard you're workin' until later! :)
I specifically remember one of my comrades telling me one day that the workout was "kinda' easy today"; by the next day it was a different story! Oh, she was sore for a week after making that preliminary assessment :)
And I was too, right along with her. :)
If there is any trainer that I envision coming to the camp with a bag of "trick or treats", you know who comes to my mind first! Hee-hee! ;)
Fellow fitness warriors, this was an extraordinary combo to play out, and it was a Double Whammy Intense! Whether it is the additional workout at the end of the week, or the unique flavor and style that each trainer brings to the camp, it will kick your butt! (LoL)
Packaged together, the accumulative effect is Killer with a capital K! Lol! :)
I liked the challenge and intensity so much that I will try to do it every other week or so. I will need some weeks to recover.
So listen up fitness addicts. It you want an Acid-Rock Workout that challenges you in all directions.....and got you goin' in all directions (lol)...... give yourself a chance to workout with both trainers! If you are working out with a different trainer in Brian's team, I'm sure you are getting the same great workouts, but come on Sat. and check it out! It will certainly be another opportunity to blow you off your customary groove and thrust you into the Twilight Zone! :)
Finishing the week with an extra workout is the bomb! What a great way to get your weekend on, with no regrets and guilt-free!
And remember! If you are in for the Transformation Challenge, this is one way to beef up your strategy to get ahead of your component! We are coming around the corner in a very short time, so no time to snooze! :)
So come on and join the fun with the pinK tiger & friends! We'll be sure to save you a space for the Sat. Acid Rock BootCamp Party! :)
